A William & Mary walnut and marquetry banded chest on stand, circa 1690, the top and drawer fronts decorated with stylised 'seaweed' marquetry, the rectangular top above two short and three long graduated drawers, the stand with a further long drawer, on turned bun feet, 111cm high, 110cm wide, 63cm deep Provenance: Estate of James Ivory, formerly of Greenway Farm, Tockenham, Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old chips, cracks and splits (see images). Some losses. Some old repairs and replacements. The feet have significant age and appear to be elm, however we cannot guarantee they are original. Handles are replacement but in the period taste. There are 'shadows' of previous 18th century handles with shaped backplates and two neatly plugged holes at each position. Locks and escutcheons are likely later associated, some locks vary from each other but are all 18th century. Lacking keys. Some evidence of old worm. Good original surface patina and colour. Some division between between planks forming floors of drawer linings. Backboards have significant age and are possibly original, all other timber elements are original. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. Condition Report Disclaimer
