A matched pair of late 19th century South Sea Island paddles, probably Solomon Islands each with flattened angled blades and fan shaped grips to the haft, length 101cm and 105.5cm (2). Additional Information The shorter blade has a slither area and a further chip to one of the sides of the blade and other knocks throughout, many surface scratches and dents, also an area of 3cm x 1cm loss to the timber (please see photographs). The longer club has notches as you would expect throughout, a few chips to the points of the fan shaped grip and a flaw to one edge of the blade which is a natural flaw within the wood.
