*Charles Spencelayh (1865-1958) 'Cook's Bouquet' Signed l.r., inscribed with title on oil paper attached to canvas verso, signed and inscribed with artist’s address on another label verso, oil on canvas 61 x 51cm Provenance: Christie’s, South Kensington, 'Victorian and British Impressionist Art', 17 March 2010, lot 126. The address given on the label verso is ‘’St Mildred’, Bozeat, Wellingborough, Northants’. The Spencelayh family moved to Bozeat in 1940 after their home at 14 St Mildred’s Road was destroyed during air raids. *Artist's Resale Right may apply to this lot. Condition report: Oil on canvas which is unlined. The paint layer is cracked and lifting in some of the thicker paint passages, notably the small yellow flower and the applied. There is extensive retouching in the background and some reinforcement of the flowers and the vase. The retouchings are well matched to the original. The varnish is clear, glossy and even. The frame is in a good condition with small chips and losses to the gilding.
