Dimensions: 2.167in H x 10.42in W Rare, Extraordinary, Chinese 17th Century Ming Dynasty Period, Chongzhen Wucai dragon motif porcelain plate. The finest porcelain potted in shallow vessel form, with broad wide central interior, rounded cavetto gently tapering to open wide, a straight open lip, raised with round shallow draft, slight concave base. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the Wucai design color. Wucai or five-color shades and tones, brightly painted in Wucai design, Opaque colors around the exterior. The Inner center medallion delicately fine depicted with five claws imperial dragon soaring amidst flames ruyi, vapors, above thrashing Lishui waves, with face and upper right appendage outstretched toward the heavens. Vigorous dragons chasing flaming pearl amidst flames against vivid tones color scrolling cumulus clouds the backdrop depicts swirling wind and fire painted atop a beautiful white underglaze. The outer medallion decorated with thrashing wavy Lishui water surround the corner. Each section banded and enclosed with double fine blue rings. And the exterior side adorned with snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves in a dark brown color dragon squama to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames, enclosed with double fine blue rings. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. This inadvertently gave texture, energy, and shading to the design. The Lines of the drawings are clear, the light and dark shades are subtle. The colors are harmonious, elegant and exquisite, the composition is sophisticated, simply a feast for the eye. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese porcelain wares, with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, and the carving. Without overlap the outlines of the design, well carved, clear, subtle, distinct, and the shape is uniformly proportioned.
