PROVENANCE: From Private collections of Mr. Peter Lyon (1938-2016), After graduation in 1959 he joined the military and was trained as a fighter pilot for the Marine corp. Retiring from the military his next career was as a commercial pilot for Pan American and United Airlines flying 747 aircraft in the pacific and orient. During his layovers he searched for fine porcelains which he proudly added to his private collection. A portion of his collection is being sold at auction to benefit his charitable interests. Dimensions: 11-3/8" H x 20-1/2" Dia. Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, wucai fish pot. Potted in pot shape, bell shaped body, deep curvature, of a deep vessel, round straight upward to form the wide opening rim, short slight flaring neck, with round flat foot base rim. The exterior decorated by applying of wucai design color, a variety of five-colored pigments creates bold opaque hand-painting of swimming carp fish among various water plants, enclosed scrolling ruyi. The Lines of the drawings are clear, the light and dark shades are subtle. The colors are harmonious, elegant and exquisite, the composition is sophisticated, simply a feast for the eye. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim. See More
