PROVENANCE: From Private collections of Mr. Peter Lyon (1938-2016), After graduation in 1959 he joined the military and was trained as a fighter pilot for the Marine corp. Retiring from the military his next career was as a commercial pilot for Pan American and United Airlines flying 747 aircraft in the pacific and orient. During his layovers he searched for fine porcelains which he proudly added to his private collection. A portion of his collection is being sold at auction to benefit his charitable interests. Dimensions: 4-7/8" H x 6-3/4" W Chinese Jun ware porcelain censer, globular body, gently tapered on short neck toward opening mouth prominent, wider flaring mouth rim. The exterior reserved in characterized opacified purple-ish glaze. The shoulder molded with u-shape knops. Adorned with gilt overglazed ring on outer rim. The glaze structure being opalescent; the minute bubbles and phase separation of the glass as it cools gives an opal effect resulting in a purple appearance, with earthworm-track markings on the surface of the glaze. The immaculate glaze stopped before the foot rim, revealed the biscuit pale-creme body. See More
