A pewter pilgrim's token formed as a D-section reliquary with trilobe rear plate and loop, hatched panels to the faceted body, scalloped feet, mask of St. John the Baptist to the pivoted lid; made for the shrine at Amiens. 6.12 grams, 31mm (1 1/4"). Property of an East Anglia gentleman; previously in a private collection formed before 2000. The cult of Saint John the Baptist was favoured at Amiens, northern France, where the saint's skull was supposedly held as a relic.
