A pewter pilgrim's badge formed as three pointed arches on a base with seated figure of St. Eligius(?), wearing a mitre and working at a bench making a goblet with his hammer. 5.69 grams, 46mm (2"). From the property of a Cambridgeshire gentleman; formerly in a collection formed prior to 2000. St. Eligius, a 7th century bishop of Noyon-Tournai, France, was a noted churchman who also produced remarkable items in gold and precious stones which were highly prized by King Clotaire II of the Franks.
