A Safavid Qur'an, Iran, 16th century, Arabic manuscript on paper, 427ff. plus four fly-leaves, each folio with 10ll. of fine naskh script, verse markers in the form of gold rounded knots, sura headings in gold thuluth script within cartouche, text within blue and black-ruled gold frame, with Persian interlinear translation in red nasta'liq script, section margins in red thuluth script in the margin, with catchwords, opening bifolio with finely illuminated gold and polychrome margins, occasional marginal comments in pink, sometimes arranged in decorative shapes, in restored gilt and polychrome Safavid figural morocco binding, text panel 17.3 x 10.8cm.; folio 25.8 x 16.4cm.
