3rd millennium BC. A limestone cylinder seal divided in three sections, each with a standing woman; accompanied by a museum-quality impression and a copy of a typed and signed scholarly note by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham 1970-1993, which states: 'Cylinder Seal of Brown Stone, 21 x 20 mm. The engraved surface is divided into three sections by deep vertical grooves, in each of which is a row of large dots. The three panels are each decorated with a standing woman, with long pigtail, wearing a robe to below the knees, and holding out both arms. This is a Jemdet Nasr seal, c. 3000 B.C., from Sumer or south-west Iran. It is in very good condition, though there is some incrustation, which could be removed. The design is one of the less common Jemdet Nasr designs.' 14.1 grams, 21mm (3/4"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s, item number 1902; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
