28th-24th century BC. A Mesopotamian carved alabaster squat bowl with handle formed as a goat's head; accompanied by an old handwritten scholarly note, signed by W.G. Lambert, late Professor of Assyriology, University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: No.22 Vessel of grey and white stone, flaring sides, goats head on one side (in the round"). Fine work. Mesopotamia c. 2800-2400 B.C.; mounted on a custom-made stand. 132 grams total, 85mm including stand (3 1/4"). From a family collection by descent, London, UK, 1980s-2000; accompanied by an original scholarly note by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham 1970-1993.
