Tang Dynasty, 618-906 AD. A ceramic figure formed as a Bactrian camel with rider, standing on an integral base; the camel's neck and head are thrown back and it wears a decorated riding rug; the detachable rider faces forwards, legs either side of the saddle, arms and hands poised to hold reigns; painted red, blue and white pigmentation survives. 3 kg, 39cm (15 1/4"). From the deceased estate of an important Japanese art collector; the collection formed 1960-2010. [No Reserve]
