9th-7th century BC. A mottled grey and green limestone cylinder seal, drilled vertically for suspension; accompanied by a museum-quality impression and a typed and signed scholarly note issued by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'In the centre of the design is a tall incense burner with flames rising from the top. Each side facing it stands a human figure with long robe with bottom fringe holding up one hand while holding out the other. There is a crescent in the sky, and the right-hand figure has in front and behind him two pairs of styluses, symbols of the god Nabu. This is a Neo-Assyrian seal, c. 850-650 B.C., made either in Assyria or a neighbouring area. It is a little damaged and worn due to the softness of the green parts, but the design is clear.' 7.2 grams, 28mm (1"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; item number V-371; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s; and accompanied by a copy of a typed and signed scholarly note by the Professor.
