6th-1st century BC. A cylinder seal of brown stone, pierced vertically for suspension; accompanied by a museum-quality impression and a typed and signed scholarly note issued by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'The design shows two ibexes standing on one hind leg, and between them a version of the Persian king in Achaemenid period dress: feather crown, tunic and Persian 'trousers'. He is one front paw of each of the animals. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 500-200 B.C. It is nicely cut and in very good state of preservation.' 2.6 grams, 31mm (1 1/4"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; item number R-585; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s; and accompanied by a copy of a typed and signed scholarly note by the Professor.
