15th-11th century BC. A faience cylinder seal, drilled vertically for suspension; accompanied by a museum-quality impression and a typed and signed scholarly note issued by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'The main design, which is put between upper and lower rules, shows two standing figures wearing short kilts and each holding with one hand the trunk of a sacred tree. The remainder of the space is filled with two vertical bands of guilloche forming a single block of decoration. This is a Mitanni seal, c. 1400-100 B.C., from any region between the eastern Mediterranean and Kurdistan. The tree was the symbol of the god of the storm, Adad/Hadad or Teshub. The seal is in very good condition.' 3.94 grams, 28mm (1"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; item number 3001; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s; and accompanied by a copy of a typed and signed scholarly note by the Professor.
