A mixed group of cylinder seals, haematite (2), limestone (2), drilled vertically for suspension, each accompanied by a museum-quality impression and a typed and signed scholarly note issued by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Seal of black/green stone. The design shows a standing figure of human shape on the right, wearing a long robe and extending one hand. Before him a lion is raising one front paw to menace a horned quadruped which turns its head back to face it. A bird on the wing and other items are fillers, and a tree or branch forms a terminal. This is a Syrian seal, c.2000 B.C. It is a rare type, but the seal is worn. (V-896)'; 'Seal of brown stone. The design, which is put between upper and lower rulings, consists of a frieze of three dots within circles, two higher than the third, and all joined by short strokes to form a kind of guilloche. This comes from Iran or west central Asia and dates to c.3000 B.C. The surface is worn, but the design is still clear. (U-112)'; 'Seal of hematite. The design consists of two pairs of standing, facing figures. In the one pair the sun-god Shamash stands in long plain robe with one leg projecting, holding his saw-weapon in one hand. A facing worshipper in long flounced robe and pointed hat offers a kid. The other pair consists of the god with mace in short clothes facing a Lamma goddess in long flounced robe. A fly and a small standing figure and a symbol are filling motifs. This is an Old-Babylonian seal, c.1900-1600 B.C. It is a classic styled piece, but it is worn. (W-121)'; 'Seal of Hematite. The design consists of three panels with guilloche above, below and separating the panels. One shows a Lahmu-hero, another a standing figure in a long robe, and the third a standing man holding the arms of a standing nude female. This is a Syrian seal, c.1800-1600 B.C. It is minute but fine work, but big portions of the seal are missing. (W-83)' 12 grams total, 16-26mm (1/2 - 1").
