3rd-2nd millennium BC. A carved alabaster figure formed as forequarters of recumbent animal on integral plinth, piriform work to the rear; pierced laterally at the shoulder. 3.3 grams, 16mm (3/4"). From a Mayfair collection, a deceased estate inherited by the collectors family; inventory number A46; examined by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert FBA (1926-2011), historian, archaeologist, and specialist in Assyriology and Near Eastern archaeology, in the 1990s; accompanied by a slip in Prof. Lambert's handwriting which includes: 'Recumbent bovine: white/pink stone... c.3000-2000 B.C.'.
