15th-12th century BC. A turquoise faience cylinder seal, drilled vertically for suspension; accompanied by a museum-quality impression and a typed and signed scholarly note issued by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'The design, which is out between upper and lower rules, shows a standing figure in long robe holding a weapon in one raised hand, and extending the other arm towards a standing horned animal with head turned back. A crude piece of guilloche pattern fills a space. This is a Mitanni seal from anywhere between the eastern Mediterranean and Kurdistan. It is in good condition and deeply cut. The seal dates to c. 1400-1200 B.C.' 1.28 grams, 21mm (1"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; item number 3003; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s; and accompanied by a copy of a typed and signed scholarly note by the Professor.
