A mixed group of limestone cylinder seals, each drilled vertically for suspension, and each accompanied by a museum-quality impression and a typed and signed scholarly note issued by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Seal of green material. The bottom parts of three standing human figures are visible: bare legs in the middle, and long but different robes each side. The remainder of the space is filled with guilloche along the bottom and a walking quadruped above. This is a Mitanni seal from some area between the eastern Mediterranean and Kurdistan. What remains is in fine condition and shows good quality work. (1808)'; 'Seal of whitish stone. The design consists of two very deeply engraved items, neither of which can be identified for certain. The one may be a standing humped quadruped, the other a winged quadruped which faces it. This is a rare type of seal and difficult to classify for that reason. There are feint traces of glaze on the surface. Most probably this seal comes from Syria or Anatolia and dates to the first half of the third millennium B.C., c.3000-2500 B.C. There is a little damage to one or two of the items, but the design remains clear. (1521)'; 'Seal of brown and cream veined stone. The design shows a man leading a horned quadruped by a rope fastened around its neck, also other linear motifs. This is a seal from Palestine, Syria, Anatolia or northern Mesopotamia and dates to c.1500-1000 B.C. It is in good condition. (1733)'; 'Seal of black stone. On the right of the scene stands a man in a kilt raising one hand. In front of him is a recumbent horned animal, and a larger standing horned animal in front of that, with a lion(?) about to prance in the background. This is a Syrian seal, c.1900-1800 B.C. The surface is worn, but the design is deeply cut and so remains clear. (2908)' 8 grams total, 11-20mm (1/4 - 3/4").
