15th-12th century BC. A frit cylinder seal with traces of turquoise glaze, drilled vertically for suspension; accompanied by a museum-quality impression and a typed and signed scholarly note issued by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'The design, which is put between upper and lower rules, shows a row of standing figures. Two rearing horned animals support between them a rosette, below it a 'ball-staff'. To the left a nude hero, wearing a two-stranded belt, is reaching out to the one animal. Behind him is a snake, and then a standing god wearing a hat with knob and long fringed robe, holding down a scimitar in one hand. Behind him is a worshipper in a different long fringed robe, raising one hand. This is a Mitanni seal, c. 1400-1200 B.C., from anywhere between the eastern Mediterranean and Kurdistan. It is in very good condition.' 4.6 grams, 26mm (1"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; item number 2029; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s; and accompanied by a copy of a typed and signed scholarly note by the Professor.
