Late 18th century AD. A polychrome painting depicting a beautiful lady dressed in sheer pink dress and dupatta standing before a blossoming tree with two birds at water's edge; her weight is resting on her left leg, the right leg emerging from the folds of her voluminous dress, an ankle chain with pendants around her bare ankle and a slipper before her; her hands decorated with henna and raised gracefully chest high; hilly background and elaborate border of foliage. 37 grams, 26.5 x 20.5cm (10 1/2 x 8"). From the Sidhu family collection; previously the property of the current owner’s late grandfather, Mr Havildar Sundar Singh Sidhu, who migrated from India to Kenya to become chief scoutmaster for Kenya in the 1950s, and later emigrated to London bringing with him his substantial collection, in the 1960s.
