Published 1885 AD. Large engraved map of Afghanistan taken from The South Eastern Part of Afghanistan, Illustrating Lieut. Broadfoot's Journey from Ghazni to Dera Ismail Khan, supplementary papers, Royal Geographical Society, 1885, with route marked in red; held in a custom-made mount. 661 grams, 61.5 x 57cm (24 1/4 x 22 1/2"). Property of an Essex gentleman; acquired London, 1990s. Lieut. George Broadfoot (1807-1845) was deployed to the frontier provinces during the First Anglo-Afghan War, during which he was commended for his gallantry. At the close of the war he was created a Companion of the Order of the Bath, and appointed Commissioner of Moulmein. Broadfoot was shot in the heart and killed at Ferozeshah on 21 December 1845.
