A rectangular wooden icon with mounting slots and bars to the reverse, metal frame with repoussé acanthus-leaf detailing and rosette to each corner, central figure of Mary and infant Jesus flanked by painted robed figures in lateral voids; metal nimbus with radiating arms surrounding the heads of Mary and Jesus, applied pearls and facetted glass (?) studs surrounding Mary's head; red Cyrillic text citing '??????????' (the Tikhvinskiy monastery), possibly 'Most holy and blessed Tikhvinskiy'. See Weizmann, K. et al. The Icon, New York, 1982. 1.9 kg, 35 x 29.5cm (13 3/4 x 11 1/2").
