Fell 12th February 1947 AD. An irregular piece of Sikhote-Alin meteorite, showing the characteristic outer surface. 52.5 grams, 57mm (2 1/4"). From the family collection of a London gentleman; previously acquired on the UK meteorite market. Sikhote-Alin is an iron meteorite that fell in 1947 on the Sikhote-Alin Mountains in southeastern Siberia. It is the largest witnessed meteorite fall in history, with an estimated 70 metric tonnes of material surviving the passage through the atmosphere. It is composed of approximately 93% iron, 5.9% nickel, 0.42% cobalt, 0.46% phosphorus, and 0.28% sulfur, with trace amounts of germanium and iridium. [No Reserve]
