George Scott Ingles (1874-1952) A.R.C.A. Picknicing, a portrait study of the artist's wife and son Alexander at Hirsel, Coldstream: on a picnic blanket with a basket of fruit and a parasol, oil pastel, signed, 53cm x 66cm. Bears a label verso inscribed 'George Scott Ingles, 178 Fosse Road South, Leicester, 'Picknicking', Royal Scottish Academy', also inscribed on the back board 'Mother and self at Hirsel Law, Coldstream, A.R. Ingles'. George Scott Ingles became Principal of Leicester College of Art in 1925, and held the post until his retirement in 1934. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, The Scottish Academy and other principal municipal galleries. Provenance: This work remained in George Scott Ingles' family until it was sold by Warner Auctions Ltd (Leicester) in the late 1990's and it has remained in a private collection since then.
