The present painting was recognized in 2010 by Carlo Falciani as a personal work of the Florentine painter Francesco Brina and is of museum quality. The attribution is based on comparisons with the "Holy Family with the Young St. John" from the Uffizi collection and with the panel with "Christ the Risen and Saints" in the church of Santa Trinita in Florence from 1552. Of particular importance is the stylistic orientation of this painting to prototypes by Leonardo, at a time when artists in Florence tended to train themselves more on works by Michelangelo. The homage to the famous master from Vinci is particularly evident in the sfumato painting and the tender embrace of the Child Jesus and Saint John in the foreground. The strong expressiveness of St. Anne's face also refers to Brina's interest in German painting, probably under the influence of the Dürer recipient Pontormos (1494 - 1557). The present composition was particularly appreciated by the Florentine collectors who commissioned Brina to repeat it. Das vorliegende Gemälde wurde 2010 von Carlo Falciani als eigenhändiges Werk des Florentiner Malers Francesco Brina anerkannt und ist von musealer Qualität. Ausschlaggebend für die Zuschreibung sind die Vergleiche mit der "Heiligen Familie mit dem Johannisknaben" aus der Sammlung der Uffizien und mit der Tafel mit "Christus dem Auferstandenen und den Heiligen" in der Kirche Santa Trinita in Florenz aus dem Jahr 1552. Von besonderer Bedeutung ist die Stilorientierung dieses Gemäldes an Prototypen Leonardos, in einer Zeit, als die Künstler in Florenz sich eher an Werken Michelangelos schulten. Die Huldigung an den berühmten Meister aus Vinci wird besonders durch das Sfumato der Malerei sowie die zärtliche Umarmung des Jesuskindes und des Heiligen Johannes im Vordergrund deutlich. Die starke Ausdruckskraft des Gesichts der Heiligen Anna verweist darüber hinaus auf die Brinas Interesse an der deutschen Malerei, das vermutlich unter dem Einfluss des Dürer-Rezipienten Pontormos (1494 - 1557) vermittelt wurde. Die vorliegende Komposition wurde besonders von den Florentiner Sammlern geschätzt, die Brina beauftragten, diese zu wiederholen. Eine weitere, etwas größere Fassung des Gemäldes (Öl auf Holz, 95,8 x 73,7 cm), die jedoch weniger detailreich ist, ist bekannt.
