Dimensions: 11-1/2" L x 3-1/2" W Chinese Qing Dynasty, Semi-Precious stones inlaid gilt bronze ruyi scepter. Presented for your consideration is a ruyi with a peach head and gilt bronze and enamel work in the shape of a branch with tendrils. The pale celadon jade head is carved into a peach with stems and leaves attached. Multicolored enamel leaves twine up and down the branches length Colorful semi-precious stones imbedded through out the wand body in various colors and shapes. The wish-granted wand, commonly called ruyi scepter, The ruyi, considered one of the Eight Treasures, was a scepter which represented power and authority. The ruyi was originally a short sword with a sword-guard used for self-defense or gesturing. There is some speculation that it may have evolved from a back scratcher. The head of the ruyi is similar to that of the Lingzhi or "fungus of immortality" and the lotus. The name "ruyi" is usually translated as "as you wish" or "in accordance with your desires". The ruyi now symbolizes good wishes and prosperity. The Ruyi Head bears a reign mark, an incised four script characters reign mark, Made In The Years of Qianlong Reign Period.
