An agate snuff bottle, Qing Dynasty, 18th/19th c., of squarish flattened flask form. pale honey color Chalcedony/agate with skin of yellowish brown carved in relief with a horse and pine tree, raised oval foot ring with well finished and polished recess, later stopper. 2 3/8" h. 6 cm. [excluding stopper]
Provenance: From A Montreal Collector Compare a similar bottle - Plate 19, bottle 2, in "SNUFF BOTTLES FROM CHINA", by Helen White. this bottle is also depicting a scene with a horse and shown to be of similar proportions and from a similar honey colored material. dated 18th / 19th. century, Victoria & Albert Museum, London England.
