Description
Translation provided by Youdao
A pierced jade eagle pendant, Qing Dynasty, carved to one side and pierced with an eagle and lotus design, the reverse uncarved but evenly polished allowing you to see the beautiful material, the stone of a very even green color, good translucency, well polished throughout, the jade mounted with an antique sterling bale and hung on a later sterling chain.
Provenance: From a Massachusetts Collection. Lot Notes: The eagle (Ying) is used in Chinese art because it's pronunciation is a homophone for mandarin words for "The Hero" or "England". Often the lotus is employed for the expression Lian Lian or Nian Nian as in 'day after day', in this case the whole meaning of the pendant would be 'The Hero, Day after Day' or 'England Day after Day'.
