Vittorio Cavalleri, Italian 1860-1938- View of a courtyard; oil on canvas, signed and dated 08, 70x86cm Held in a gilded moulding frame, late 20th century The wooden stretcher looks to be the original. The reverse of the frame and the salvage has been covered over with brown tape. The canvas has not been re-lined but has been impregnated with a wax compound on the reverse. There is a ragged series of short and long tears, with associated losses on the far upper left seen from the reverse, 17cm high 4cm wide max in area. Further repaired tear upper centre, seen from the reverse. Corresponding tears visible upper centre in one of the archways and on the right hand side, recto. Under inspection with UV lamp there is evidence of retouching across the central section, please see image. Will require restoration.
