A double-weave fabric in red, blue, black, white and yellow colours, with birds in a central panel and flowers either side together with patterned borders, this would have been worn vertically on the tunic. 21 grams total, 41 x 15cm (16 1/4 x 6"). Property of a Lincolnshire, UK, gentleman; from the collection of the Late Robert Henry Hering. For centuries, the native weavers of Egypt were famous for the richness of their work. Using intricate patterns and vivid colours, Coptic weavers created masterpieces of textile art. Coptic textiles, used for rugs, wall hangings and clothing appliques, and were exported throughout the Roman empire. [No Reserve]
