Late 4th-early 3rd millennium BC. A marble cylinder seal with incised zigzags; accompanied by a museum-quality impression and typed and signed scholarly note issued by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Cylinder Seal of Translucent White Stone 21 x 17 mm. The design is composed of thick lines. Two, along top and bottom, serve to mark the borders. Between them a pair of zigzagging lines and short, curved filling strokes create the impression of eye shapes with a nearly straight horizontal stroke in the middle of most. This comes from Susa, the Diyala Valley of south-west Iran and dates to c. 3000 B.C. It is in excellent condition and is a nice example of its kind.' 10.85 grams, 21mm (1"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; item number W-477; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s; accompanied by an original typed and signed scholarly note by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert.
