25th-22nd century BC. A mottled jasper cylinder seal with frieze of heroes and rearing animals; accompanied by a museum-quality impression and typed and signed scholarly note issued by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Cylinder Seal of Brown and Fawn Stone 26.5 x 15 mm. The design is a contest scene of six figures, all on their hind legs. From the right they are: a lion, a stag, a nude hero, another stag, another lion, and a hero is[sic] short kilt. A scorpion appears as a filler within the design. This comes from Mesopotamia or west Iran and dates to c.2500-2200 B.C. It is cut in a simple style with use of the drill and is in good condition.' 13.5 grams, 27mm (1"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; item number W-507; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s; accompanied by an original typed and signed scholarly note by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert.
