3rd millennium BC. A group of four stone cylinder seals comprising two jasper and two limestone; two accompanied by a museum-quality impression and typed and signed scholarly note issued by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: (1) 'Cylinder Seal of Soft White Stone 27 x 15 mm. The design shows a two [sic] standing figures, one in longer clothing than the other, and a larger woman straddling over a lying man in the act of coitus. This is worn and is a rare seal for its design, dating to the Akkadian period, or a little later, c.2400-2100 B.C.' (2) 'Cylinder Seal of Black Stone 29 x 20 mm. The design shows the sun god Shamash standing, with rays coming from his shoulders, in the gate of the east, as two gods hold back the two door-panels. A sword is a filler in this scene. A terminal is formed of star-spade symbol below a lunar crescent. This is an Akkadian seal, c. 2300-2200 B.C., and it is in very good condition.' 17 grams total, 17-28mm (3/4 - 1"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; item number 49-B (64), Y-526, Y-972, W-80; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s; accompanied by two original typed and signed scholarly notes by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert.[4]
