A pair of painted wooden panels comprising: a thin panel with a heavenly being or bodhisattva holding an open lotus flower, aureole behind, crowned and standing on a lotus podium, wearing elaborate jewellery and layered robes and ribbons; a thick panel with a lady or heavenly maiden wearing a crown and blue voluminous robe, hands held together and partly concealed by the large sleeves, possibly a form of Kwan Yin or heavenly maiden of Taoist tradition. 754 grams total, 42.5cm each (16 3/4"). Acquired for the ‘Buckingham Collection’ by the late Nik Douglas (1944-2012), renowned author, curator and Asian art expert; the collection formed from the early 1960s to early 1970s; accompanied by a copy of two Nik Douglas's illustrated cataloguing pages.[2, No Reserve]
