CAROLINE VON DER EMBDE (ATTR.) 1812 Kassel - 1867 Hamburg Self(?)-portrait of the artist in early years Oil on canvas (relined). 95 x 77 cm (F. 105 x 87 cm). Min. damaged, rest. Frame. The portrayed woman glances pensively to the left, holding mahlstick and painter`s palette in her hands as well as what seems to be a mirror. A canvas placed on an easel in the backround thus indicates the painting to be a self portrait. The comparison with a later image in the collection of Neue Galerie Kassel illustrates geat resemblance with the artist Caroline von der Embde (1812-1867), elder daughter of the local genre and portrait painter August von der Embde (1780-1862), pictured as confident woman at a young age. der Embde (1780-1862), festgehalten als selbstbewusste Frau in jungen Jahren. Der Cf. Neue Galerie, Kassel: Caroline von der Embde, Self-portrait 1855, Inv.no. 1875/1635
