Min. damaged, rest. Frame. Charles Landelle began his art studies in 1837 at the Parisian École des Beaux-Arts under Paul Delaroche and Ary Scheffer. From 1841 on he exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon, at first mostly religious subjects. Travels to Morocco, Algier and Egypt inspired him to depict oriental and mythological solitary figures such as the one presented here.
