An unusual bronze sceptre with a central ceremonial mace head comprising horned animals within an ornamental knotted composition and modulating cylindrical shank. In ancient bronze age cultures, beasts like the ones depicted on this sceptre symbolised the wild power of nature and are often represented in art as a way of advertising man’s prowess in taming them. Good condition. Provenance: From an old British collection formed in the 1990s, formerly acquired in the UK and European Art Market.. Size: L:150mm / W:50mm ; 272g
