C. 1000 AD. Nishapur. A beautiful turquoise glazed terracotta vessel with a cylindrical neck, biconical body, ring foot and grooved, ear-shaped handle. The medieval city of Nishapur was famed for the richness of its glazed ceramics and exquisite glassware. However, its excellence as a centre of crafts did not save it from destruction by the Mongols, who besieged and sacked the city in 1221, virtually extinguishing it for the rest of history. Good condition. Provenance: From an old British collection of Asian Art formed in the 1990 on the UK and European art market. Size: L:200mm / W:165mm ; 1kg
