ClayNepal , 18th centuryDimensions: Height 24,5 cm by 25 cmWeight: 1780,1 gramsThis clay piece shows a lively scene of Vishnu, one of the three principal deities of Hinduism, standing wide-legged on top of a chariot pulled by two horses. Vishnu has four arms and is holding attributes like a discus, a conch shell, a lotus flower and a club. A large garland is hanging from his shoulders onto his knees covered by a short cloth with decorative brim. He is wearing a crown of five plates with flowers. Behind him we see a large aureole. To his front we see his vehicle Garuda, here depicted with an almost completely zoomorphic shape, a beak and scales as body. Behind Vishnu is another adorant holding a three-tiered parasol or canopy to undermine the royal appearance of Lord Vishnu. There is a hole in the top of the clay for attaching it with a string or similar.
