Bronze fire giltTibet , 17th to 18th centuryDimensions: Height 26 cm by 19 cmWeight: 2423 gramsThis is a fierce emanation of a yidam in the Tantric Buddhism, shown in a flaming aureole with a female consort called Vajravarahi in tight embrace called yab yum position. They are standing on top of two prostrate and kneeling creatures. Besides clasping his consort in his tight embrace, his other ten hands are holding various objects and weapons like severed heads, a spear with a crescent moon, a damaru drum, a vajra, a battle hatchet and so on. He has four faces, each wearing a crown enclosing high chignon. Vajravarahi is dressed in a skirt with many turquoise stone inlay and a skull garland around the hip. This is a very dramatic and emotional depiction of "The Binding of the Wheel" tantra.
