Description
Translation provided by Youdao
Scarab of light-coloured rock, probably steatite. Holes for the eyes. Pierced lengthwise. On the back two pairs of monkeys on a date palm. The motif of the monkeys on both sides of a palm contains a "hidden" message: it represents a New Year's wish. On the one hand, the hieroglyph for the word "year" is a palm branch. On the other hand, the monkey as hieroglyph can be used as a sign for good and beautiful (nefer). The scene thus expresses a wish for a good year. This scene was especially popular from the 19th to the 22nd Dynasty (ca. 1295 - 712 B.C.). Rubbed due to age. Otherwise excellent condition. Length 7 cm! On base. Provenance: From the estate of a private collector from Southwest Germany.Condition: II -
