Finely worked, life-size private portrait of a young man with a hairstyle still in the tradition of Emperor Trajan. The strands of his hair combed forward and sideways and framing his longish face. His eyes big and alert, the brows bushy. The man has a tightly cropped moustache and sparse whiskers which indicate his youth. His mouth is closed. The head is inspired by contemporary portraits of the emperor and is intended to characterise the young man as a promising, determined individual well-suited for public office. Dimensions 28 x 18 x 22 cm. Mounted on a red marble cube with an edge length of 15 cm. Weight 14.3 kg, base 7.1 kg.Provenance: From an old Spanish private collection, José Louis Viñas, 1970s.
