ca. 600–700 AD. A rare pre-Viking, Northern European silver pendant with a flat section round body, decorated rim, and attached bronze hoop on the back. The central part of the pendant depicts a horse rider with a bird on his arm and a sun above his head; below the horse there are an infant and two beasts. The pendant displays remains of gold gilding and niello insert and may be a depiction of an early myth about Odin.Provenance: From an old British collection formed in the 1990s; previously acquired in Germany.Size: L:60mm / W:50mm ; 25.4g
