possibly 18th century, the handle cast with a figure with its features finely incised, wearing a domed shaped crown, the bell body cast in relief with a frieze of masks with suspended beaded jewel strands set in between a border of vajra motifs, above a further band of vajra, the inside with an inscription,in the 17th century style, with four prongs on either side and a baluster form handle in the centre,The ghanta and vajra are indispensible ritualistic instruments according to TIbetan Buddhism, with the ghanta representing the feminine attribute of wisdom and the vajra representing the male attribute of skilful means. It is the union of the attributes that ultimately leads to enlightenment.
