In the early 80s, the Styling Garage (SGS), located near Hamburg, was one of the top addresses of German car tuners. Especially popular (and expensive!) were the modified luxury Mercedes models. It was not uncommon for the conversion costs to exceed the purchase price of a new vehicle, so that the majority of SGS creations were mostly ordered by solvent customers from Arabia and the USA. At the height of its commercial success, SGS even produced forty modified Mercedes-Benz sedans painted in the colors of the rainbow for the wedding of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. However, in 1986 there was no longer much business to be done with exotic-exclusive individual conversions, so SGS had to cease operations. The fact that SGS produced a small number of cars based on the Mercedes 500 SEC Coupé shows that the North German coachbuilder also produced cars of timeless elegance and beauty.
