Iron Age, 8th-7th century BC. A pair of bronze horse harness cheekpieces of conical form with incised concentric rings; round-section bars creating loops underneath. See Castelluccia, M. & Dan, R., Some Remarks on Urartian Horse Harnesses, Napoli, 2019, pl.9, for the type. 208 grams total, 66-67mm (2 1/2"). Property of a gentleman from Vienna; from his private collection formed since 1970. Discs of various dimensions and shapes were fixed to leather straps and fastened to the bit’s cheek-pieces, holding them in place. Many of these kind of discs have been discovered on Urartian archaeological sites. The discs may be undecorated, or have decorations on the outer, visible side. They were destined to protect the sides of the horse's mouth. [2, No Reserve] For this specific lot, 5% import VAT is applicable on the hammer price
