H. 31 cm (o.S.) Condition A FINE AND LARGE INSCRIBED CELADON JADE MOUNTAIN WITH A POEM OF THE QIANLONG EMPEROR, China, Qianlong period. Deeply carved on one side with two pavilions and a walled mansion disposed amidst craggy rocks, a waterfall cascading from the top of the mountain flowing into a stream at the bottom, visited by a hare and a buffalo, all below an inscription on a cliff face in the top right corner, the other side carved with a pair of cranes beside pine trees and bamboo, and below another crane in flight, the top with another inscription, the well polished stone of pale green tone with some lighter and russet inclusions. Both the jade carving and the inscribed poems by Emperor Qianlong refer to a waterfall called 'qianchixue' ("A Thousand Foot of Snow") near the famous lodge of Zhao Yiguang (1559-1625) in the mountains of Suzhou-Provenance: Sotheby's London, 7.11.2006, Lot 38-Property from an important French private collection-Few tiny chips
