WALTER DURFEE FOR TIFFANY & CO. CARVED OAK 9 TUBE GRANDFATHER CLOCK, C. 1890-1910 H 98'' W 26.5'' D 17'' Having 9 tubular chimes, 3 weights, and one pendulum. Broken arched pediment, arched glass panel door, moon dial, Arabic numerals, 3 weights, Wittington and Westminster chimes. On carved ball and claw feet. Back of works stamped "Walter H. Durfee Providence RI." Clock face marked "Tiffany & Co. New York". Walter Durfee (b. 1857), is considered the "father of the modern grandfather clock" and formed his company in Providence, RI in 1877. He began production of tubular chime clocks in 1887. Provenance: Property of a prominent metro Detroit private collector.
