On the far left a large gate, guiding the eye to a nightly landscape. On the bottom right signature "Raphl:Mengs". A few minor repairs, one slightly larger cut (restored) in the background. Carved and gilt wooden frame. Size 72 x 100 cm. Son of Ismael Mengs, court painter in Saxony. Appointed first painter to Frederick Augustus II in 1749.
